Psychotherapy and Counselling in North Leeds and online.
My name is Katie Lister and I'm a BACP-accredited psychotherapist working with adults online and in-person in North Leeds. My particular areas of focus are anxiety, low self-esteem, and self-criticism, including how these affect the way people relate to others and to themselves.

Many of the people I work with are managing well on the outside, holding down jobs, caring for others, keeping things together. But underneath, they're anxious, hard on themselves, and often feel low, numb, or unable to enjoy things in the way they used to.
Therapy offers a space to understand what has shaped your experience and how you might respond to life differently. I don't offer a fixed programme — I work with you as an individual and adjust my approach depending on what you bring.
I draw primarily on Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), alongside elements of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and relational therapy. From Autumn 2026 I will also be offering EMDR, an evidence-based approach for processing distressing experiences, having completed my accredited training.
If you're struggling with difficult feelings or feel unable to live your life the way you want to, get in touch to arrange an informal telephone conversation.
I hold a postgraduate diploma in Counselling & Psychotherapy and I'm an accredited member of the British Association of Counsellors & Psychotherapists (BACP), which means I have been formally recognised as meeting high standards of training, experience, ethical practice, and ongoing professional development.
In addition to my core training I have completed further development in Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) and I draw on principles from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) in my work. I am currently undertaking accredited EMDR training, due to be completed in July 2026. I am a member of a monthly CPD peer consultation group and engage in regular clinical supervision.
I am a recognised provider with Aviva, AXA Health, Vitality and WPA. If you hold a policy with one of these insurers, you may be able to claim for sessions with me. Please check your cover directly with your insurer before starting therapy.

If you're experiencing emotional difficulties that are affecting your quality of life, therapy may help. What matters most is that you feel ready to engage honestly - that doesn't mean having everything figured out, just a willingness to look at things with some openness.
I offer sessions online and in-person in North Leeds at Margaret House, Roundhay. If you're not sure whether therapy is right for you, or whether I'm the right therapist, get in touch for an informal conversation. There's no obligation.

Research shows that the effectiveness of any counselling or psychotherapy depends on the quality of the relationship between the therapist and client regardless of the type of therapy. So, our connection has to feel right. Get in touch via email and we can arrange a brief, informal telephone chat. This way, I can learn more about you and what you're seeking from therapy, and we can both determine if we're a good fit. I’m passionate about helping people improve their psychological wellbeing and supporting their personal growth because I know from experience how life-changing the therapeutic process can be.
I can support you with a wide range of issues. Here are a few of the more common difficulties that I have supported people with:
Therapy sessions last 50 minutes and cost from £68 per session, both in-person and online. If using health insurance: I’ll invoice your insurer at their approved schedule once pre-authorised.
I accept payment by bank transfer or in cash.
